Julia and Gail Engagement Pictures | Oakland, CA

In January I had a privilege to take engagement pictures for Julia and Gail in Oakland. They were a lot of fun – very relaxed and natural in front of the camera.

My job as a photographer is very easy when people I work with open up and just have a good time.

I think smile flatter any person, especially so contagious and sincere like theirs.

Keela and Les Engagement Pictures | Berkeley, CA

I like having fun while taking pictures of people, it makes such a difference when clients are relaxed, flirty and playful. This weekend I took engagement pictures of Keela and Les the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley. And they did not disappoint…

It was a foggy day and we couldn’t see the city from up in the hills. This fact didn’t really matter, Keela and Les were still “fighting” over the observation binoculars.

Although we had little luck with the panoramic view Lawrence Hall of Science offers on a sunny day, we took a few very cute pictures by their waterfall.

Growing up in Ukraine I used to watch a lot of Indian movies, which is somewhat odd if you think about it. I have always loved the colorful outfits and as you might have guessed – dancing. In November I have photographed an Indian wedding which brought me back to my childhood.

Ruby and Josh, the bride and the groom, wore amazing red and white wedding outfits.

For the first time in my life I saw such an intricate henna tattoo work – I can only imagine how long it took…

Now I want a purse like that too .

The guests and the couple danced the night away, and I was so glad to be a part of this fairy tale wedding.

It’s fun to visit family and friends around holidays. I was in Utah right before Thanksgiving for my sister-in-law’s wedding and had some time to hang out with my best friend Masha (Masha #2 he-he-he, I am Masha #1) and her little boy.

It was a nice warm day to take pictures and I had very cooperative models! And then Masha and I have decided to open a new line of woman’s clothing and have Masha be the model for our catalog .

Japan trip| December 2010

In the beginning of December I was fortunate enough to visit Japan on a business/tourist trip. I am fascinated by this country; by how different the culture is from the Western world; and by how enchanting and stunning simple everyday objects can become.

I have visited the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto – it’s my favorite historical structure in Japan as of now. It is hard to get a bad picture there; the whole complex is a symbol of landscape design perfection.

I also went back to Odaiba, the most modern part of Tokyo. I am not really sure why there is a small Statue of Liberty there, but it’s a very popular spot to take pictures as a couple. Maybe it’s a symbol of love here…

And then, of course, I had to go back to Nagano and visit the snow monkeys again. They were cute as ever until of of them with a very innocent face tried to steal my camera bag. I have visited them on a weekday and there were only a few other people in the park and literally a few hundred monkeys around us. Snow monkey park is not a zoo, there are not cages or any barrier between you and the beasts.

After returning from the park I have read that these monkeys are actually pretty dangerous and even a smaller ones can hurt a person really bad. I am glad I have survived a visit to these “cute monsters” only to be planning my next visit to Japan in the future.
